Project #11: Color Scheme

Monochromatic red Analogo Complementary

As the same way that is possible to create several values on the gray scale, it is possible to create color value. The dimension of lightness and darkness describes the intensity or straight of the light.

The monochromatic color scheme uses variations in lightness and saturation of a single hue. This scheme looks clean and sophisticated. Monochromatic colors go well together and produce a soft effect. Depending of the monochromatic scheme the viewer’s eye keeps a sensation of calm or energy. In this case produces a sensation of strength and power. Using the color hue within the composition is possible to establish an overall mood. All the primary colors such as yellow, blue, and red can be integrated with neutral colors such as black, white, or gray.

The analogous color scheme uses colors that are adjacent to each other within the color wheel. One color is used as a dominant hue while others are used as supplement hues. The analogous scheme is similar to the monochromatic one, but offers more gradations. In this piece, the colors yellow, yellow orang, and yellow green are establishing a sensation of sunshine, happiness, and warmth.

The complementary color scheme is made of two hues that are opposite each other within the color wheel. This scheme is intrinsically high-contrast when is placed a warm color against a cool color. When using the complementary scheme, it is important to choose a dominant color and use its complementary color to emphasis the composition. Red and green as symbol of Christmas produce a sensation of unity.
