Value – Self Portrait Collage

Creating value is possible to distinguish different darks and light points in an artwork. Black, white, and gray scales are the principal colors to create a value contrast between every area. It is easy to visualize the variations of gray suggest planes, shadows, and shapes. It depends of the arrangement and the amount of variation in dark and light it creates the focal point.

The arrangement of opposite elements such as light and dark in a piece creates value contrast. The colors white and black provide the greatest degree of contrast. By planning high contrast in different areas of the artwork is possible to attract the viewer’s eye attention.

In this composition about the value self-portrait collage is possible to see the value and value contrast on the gray scale. Even though the self-portrait is well done, it was very challenging to produce the correct value of the mouth and the nose.
